that weirdo with the notebook
04 August 2008 @ 08:51 pm
I had one of those dreams this weekend that makes you really pissed off that you have to wake up, because all you want to do is find out what's going to happen. Only in this case, what I wanted was to figure out what the fuck was going on. I did some thinking after I got up, went out to the living room, and started telling my husband all the details I remembered, and we sat on the couch brainstorming possible explanations for about an hour. Eventually I said something like, "I think I'm going to have to do NaNo this year."

The thought of actually doing NaNoWriMo for srs scares the shit out of me. The last few times I committed to strict deadlines for writing, I just about went bonkers...and those were nothing like NaNo. Over a thousand words in a day, that I can do. 1500 to 2000 of possible unadulterated tripe, 30 days in a row, minimal editing? Eep time. That, and when my husband did NaNo a couple years ago (and actually finished!), I was basically in charge of everything around the house. This is not a good idea. The idea of him being in charge of everything instead...about the same. I have a feeling I'll be freezing casseroles on the weekends. But I realized that if I don't take the opportunity to power through this thing, I'll probably never write it. And I think the premise is too cool to stay in Lucien's library.

So now that I've decided what to do with the idea, I'm annoyed that I can't just write the darn thing, but on the other hand I'm probably going to have a better prewrite jump on this 'verse than any I've ever come up with. Which should help. And there's no rule against writing ancient history if it's not going toward your wordcount...

So. Uhm. Lost.

I really shoulda posted a few months ago that Desmond/Sayid appealed to me, because now it's gonna be the latest bandwagon and I'm just going to look like a generic squeemonkey.

Eh. If it means more fic, I'm not going to argue.

Ideas for Heroes S3
Things that could happen in Heroes S3 that would be really fucking cool:

1. We get a gay hero. Like, a real one.
2. Maya figures out that she has one of the few known powers Sylar doesn't have a counter for, and gets all Inigo on his ass.
3. Nana busts out with ceiling-walking or water breathing or something else even cooler.
4. Peter's kid from the future meets Claire in Salt Lake City.
5. Heidi gets a clue, tells Angela to go fuck herself, and takes the kids to parts unknown. One or both promptly manifest due to the stress.
6. West starts training as an assassin.
7. It turns out that whoever shot Nathan did so because he was going to turn into a real asshole, not because he was going to reveal Company secrets.
8. Bob transmutes somebody. On screen.
9. Elle adopts HRG and borders on creepily stalking him.
10. Sylar attempts to absorb the brain in the jar in the vault and something goes horribly wrong.

Things that could happen that would be considerably less cool )

Some of the good list is actually from a huge muse attack I had a while ago that planned out a bunch of S3 speculation. And some of the bad list...has a better chance of happening than the stuff on the good list. Grrr. Show writers, if you're reading: DO NOT READ THE LIST BEHIND THE CUT. It doesn't exist. You are getting sleepy. Yeeees.

Jeesh. Trust me to add 50% to the required BigBoom word count. Draft has been sent, no acknowledgement of same has been received, panic regarding the foregoing has been told to go soak its head. Because where I am right now, that's a really good idea. Even for abstract concepts.

Acutally, this word count may end up being inaccurate, as we're permitted to tinker with things right up until posting. Which isn't for a while yet, so while I'm out of the woods, I still ought to stop and look at the map to be sure I'm taking the best way into town.

I am going to be sooooo sick of this fic by the time it's posted.

The largest version of the multiple-exposure pic here makes me think of the final chapter of my BigBoom fic. I looked at it and went, "Map, check...odd junk on the wall, check...crap, that's the room!"

Gotta go do more with that so I actually make it under the wire...

So apparently "I See Dead People" is up for R-rated P/M at [info]heroes_slash. Not that it's got a chance, with the competition (*faints*), but thanks for the thought! :)

...and I'm not 100% sure I'm going to make it under the BigBoom wire. Comic-Con kind of did more of a number on my progress than I'd anticipated, largely because it was hard for me to write what I was writing on-site when real professionals might be sitting next to me and ask for an explanation. And when I was able to be more alone, stylus-tapping proved not fast enough to get ideas out. So, I might make it, I might not.

If I make it, anybody want to beta? It'll probably be 20-25k words by the time I'm through, depending on how much description I put into the sexy bits, how much explaining and talking head time I have to do to be clear on plot, and how vehemently the Petrellis argue in chapter 4. AU from the end of "Parasite," P/M because that's what I want, darn it. Warnings for weird gore, which would probably be more at home in Milo's upcoming movie; and character death, both completely AU and tweaked from canon.

"Beyond" is a finished draft, 5102 words awaiting a good edit. "Moon" is sitting pretty on 4488 and is very much not done. "Here" is at 4465 and is fluctuating madly. My brain has been thoroughly eaten.

Something will be up this week, I swear.

[info]heroes_bigboom progress: 3130 words in draft 1.5 of section 1 of probably 6. This is more than I expected to get from not quite three complete folio folds of scribbling (fold paper in half crosswise, write on it like it's a 4-page book), so I'm very happy. At 1000 words per folio, I have somewhere in the vicinity of 4500 more written down in full draft form, plus half a folio of annotated dialogue (which usually more than doubles in wordcount by the time it's expanded into scene). A good 500 words of this so far is full-on slash, with about 500 more of pre-slash and 1000 of discussion thereof. I anticipate the current section of porny content to eventually be about 750-1000, with two more sections of comparable wordcount occurring later.

Total estimated wordcount of what I will have when all my currently written-down material is entered: 8500.
Total estimated wordcount of what I have left to write in order to connect all the bits of the first half of the fic: 1500.

I'd say that qualifies as on track.

At approximately 1:00 this morning, when any sane person would have been asleep, I was laughing my fool head off in the throes of a bunny attack. Fortunately, my husband was in on the joke and was pretty good-natured about being clutched and flopped upon in a non-sexual manner. Yes, the "Moon" prompt finally lured its bunny into the fold, by saying, "Cliché? I'll show you cliché. Pack 'em all in and let's get it over with! Martini, folks?" Which means: crack. Which is fine, because my table doesn't have any yet. (I'm kinda playing bingo, in case you couldn't tell.)

In other news, [info]bestofheroes left Peter/Mohinder out of their categories. WTF?!?!? We're a pretty venerable ship here; what gives? (Yeah, 90% of my stuff doesn't make wordcount anyway, but there's plenty of folks whose stuff regularly does. Geesh.)

[info]heroes15 was supposed to be simple. 15 fics, tons of prompt tables to choose from, no deadline. Shoulda remembered that simple + me = anti-OTP. So I've written 7, of which I've posted 5 (the others are coming soon, I swear), and started 6 more. One of the remaining two is planned out, sort of, and I've hit multiple walls on the last one. ("Moon," for godsake. How the frell do you do a piece on that prompt that's not painfully cliché?) Somewhere in the middle of yesterday, I decided I needed to organize them all by various characteristics, including length, sappiness-to-drama ratio, POV, and timeline/time period. And somehow I managed to fit everything I've at least started actually writing into three continuities: two based on different outcomes for the end of season 1 (S1A and S1B), and 5YG. I don't know how this happened, but it did. Also, because in my they-survived-to-old-age!fic I went light on the details, it could cap off either of the coin-toss 'verses. Score.

What's got me going bonkers now is that the damn things are spawning. I thought of a way, last night, to justify S1A, and rather than get in bed like a sensible person, I stumbled out to find my Palm (because me + Documents To Go = OTP) so I could jot it down. By lunchtime, it was a full-fledged (furred?) bunny, gen as all hell and probably capable of earning me the trophy for Queen of Bittersweet. Guess what I was doing for two hours instead of updating reports?

So yeah, this stuff is taking over my life. Why do you ask?
